Data Visualization

As part of my job as a scientist, I enjoy producing nice data visualizations once in a while. Below is an overview of some graphs, charts, and animations I have made over the years, some for actual publications or presentations, others just for my own purposes or insights.

Scatter plot

A basic scatter plot of data points for different model parameter values, with linear regression fits (solid lines) added.

Level plot

A level plot showing the amount of overlap between all possible pairs of 12 closely related sets.

Bar plot

A bar plot showing the difference between two ranking measurements over a range of sports seasons.

Time plot

An animated image showing how the value resulting from a particular mathematical function grows over time.

Snapshots

Snapshots showing the dynamical behavior of a 2D cellular automaton that produces spontaneous spirals.

Network

A large directed network with a clear hierarchical structure consisting of several levels.

Bifurcation diagram

An animated visualization showing how the bifurcation diagram of a given dynamical system changes with an increasing parameter value.

Surface plot

A 3D surface plot showing how the value of one variable changes over a range of values of two other variables.

Space-time diagram

Two space-time diagrams showing the spatial and dynamical behavior of a particular 1D cellular automaton.

Iterated function

An animated image showing how the shape of a plant can result from an iterated geometrical function.
